What happens

Wild Bill Hickok and his partner Jingles ride toward the ranch of their old friends Sid and Samantha Hawkins after nightfall and find Sid firing into the dark. Sid says a voice calls for help from inside his new well, a sound he cannot explain and that frightens his household. Bill and Jingles examine the well and the ground around it, questioning Sid and Samantha about when the voice began. A well digger named Bigfoot Wiley, who has just been paid, becomes unusually hurried when he hears Bill's name. This is an episode of the Wild Bill Hickok radio series, first broadcast on January 23, 1953, with Guy Madison as Wild Bill and Andy Devine as Jingles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
