What happens
On the Red Horse Ranch, Alabam Rose and Mr. Carter remain behind while the rest of the outfit rounds up the herd. Carter plans to sell the whole herd this spring to raise money and save the ranch. Because of Alabam's injury, Steve Bradford has been placed in charge of the roundup, and the hands resent taking his orders. At camp that evening, the cowboys argue over the night herd, the cook struggles with his coffee, and Arizona sings to calm the restless cattle. Alabam then unexpectedly turns up at the chuck wagon, having slipped away from the ranch house. Bradford arrives and puts Alabam back on the night herd, making clear that he holds authority over the outfit.
The Red Horse Ranch and a night roundup camp, with a chuck wagon and herd of cattle.
Characters: Alabam Rose, Mr. Carter, Steve Bradford, Idaho, Bob, Arizona, Tenderfoot, Cookie
Listen for: Arizona's song to quiet the herd, and Alabam's sudden arrival at camp and Bradford's reaction to it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
