What happens

Wild Bill Hickok and his deputy Jingles ride the Old West trail when they come upon Elmer Ellington, a tinker who claims to be a lawman's friend and fixer of many things. In the back of his wagon they find the body of Broad Phillips, a member of the Phillips brothers gang, killed with a knife. Elmer admits he sharpened the knife, but insists he did not kill the man. Before the mystery can be pursued, gunfire from the hillside forces the three to scramble for cover, and Hickok and Jingles must deal with the surviving Phillips brothers. The story is part of the Wild Bill Hickok radio series, starring Guy Madison as Hickok and Andy Devine as Jingles.

The Old West trail, and later the nearby town and a stream where Elmer's wagon is camped.

Characters: Wild Bill Hickok, Jingles, Elmer Ellington, Broad Phillips, Slim Phillips, Ted Phillips

Listen for: The sharpened knife and the wagon's hidden trap, and how Elmer seems to know more about the Phillips brothers than he lets on.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
