What happens
Wild Bill Hickok and his sidekick Jingles ride to the ranch of Fitz Longman, an old acquaintance, after Fitz asks for help with a strange problem. Fitz's son Teddy has the measles, and a creature has been killing his hogs at night, vanishing like a shadow whenever anyone tries to catch it. Fitz's prospector neighbor Whiny is also on hand. Shortly after they set out, the pair come under rifle fire from the trees, and they find Fitz lying wounded in the road. Bill and Jingles then head back toward the ranch to look for the attacker and the killer animal. The transcript ends before the mystery is resolved. This episode of the Wild Bill Hickok series, starring Guy Madison and Andy Devine, aired on November 5, 1954.

Listen for: Who is shooting from the trees, and what Bill makes of the marks left in the dirt near the oak tree.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
