What happens
A Texas Ranger arrives at a ranch house to investigate the brutal beating death of an elderly couple. The only clues are a fragment of expensive letterhead paper found clutched by the victim, horseshoe prints indicating the killer rode a horse from San Antonio, and a witness who saw an unfamiliar car arriving at the ranch just before the murders.
A ranch 30 miles from Salt Flats, Texas, on a Sunday in August 1949
Characters: Ranger Jason Pearson, Bill Ross, Judy Ross, Sheriff, Big Chuck Whitaker
Listen for: The mysterious piece of letterhead paper and the significance of the San Antonio license plate frame on the car that was seen at the ranch
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
