About our sources

Nothing on Stupid Potato was recorded by us. The 18,639 old-time radio episodes on our stations and in our podcasts survive because collectors kept the transcription discs and tapes, volunteers digitised, dated and catalogued them, and the Internet Archive hosts them for everyone. This page says where each series comes from and thanks the people behind it.

The Old Time Radio Researchers

181 of the sets we play were assembled by the Old Time Radio Researchers (OTRR), a volunteer group that gathers the best surviving copy of each episode, verifies titles and air dates against the logs, and publishes the result on the Internet Archive as a "Singles" set per series. Our episode lists and air dates lean on that work. The Researchers publish no terms for their sets; this is our thank-you, not a claim of any licence, and we point every series page at the set it plays.

The Internet Archive and its uploaders

24 other sets come from individual uploaders and collectors on the Internet Archive, which keeps them online free of charge. Each series page links the item it plays from, so you can see the original files, the uploader's notes and the Archive's own metadata.

What we add, and what we do not

We remaster the sound for the stream (rumble, hiss and hum cleaned out, levelled to steady broadcast loudness), write an episode guide from the episode itself, and play each series in the order it first aired. The recordings are the collectors' and the Researchers'; the mistakes in our lists are ours. Spotted a wrong date, title or name? Report a mistake · Missing a series? Request a show · Suggest a note
