Effective October 22, 2026.
The short version
- You can listen, watch, read and play without an account and without giving us your name or email.
- We keep ordinary server logs and use privacy-minded analytics to count visitors and fix problems.
- If you give us your email (the weekly note, the Plus waitlist or a Plus trial), we use it for that and nothing else.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, we do not show ads, and we do not track you across other websites.
What we collect
Server logs
Like nearly every website, our server records each request: your IP address, the time, the page or file asked for, the response, the referring page and your browser's user-agent string. Our live streams (Icecast) keep similar logs. We use them to keep the site running, to count listeners, to stop abuse and to look up a rough country for each address (using a database that runs on our own server). The logs rotate and are overwritten as they fill up, normally within a few weeks.
Analytics (PostHog)
Our public pages and games use PostHog to count page views and see which pages, buttons and games people use. PostHog receives the page address, the referring page, your browser and device type and an approximate location derived from your IP address. It stores a random anonymous identifier in a cookie or your browser's local storage so repeat visits are counted once. We do not attach your name or email to it, we do not record your screen, and if your browser sends "Do Not Track", PostHog does not track you at all.
Email sign-ups (Mailchimp)
If you sign up for the weekly note, join the Plus waitlist or start a free Plus trial, your email address goes to our mailing list at Mailchimp (Intuit). We use it to send what you signed up for. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect right away. For a Plus trial we also keep, on our server, your email, the choices you made for your channel (the years, kinds of shows and words you typed), the time and the IP address you started it from, so each email gets one free trial.
Stupid Potato Plus and its cookies
Plus payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and are
never seen or stored by us. We keep a members list with your email address, your Stripe customer and subscription IDs
and whether your membership is active. When you join or start a trial, we set a signed cookie (sp_plus for
members, kept up to 90 days; sp_trial for the trial) that keeps you signed in on that browser. These
cookies hold an ID, not your email, and are used only by our own site.
Show reminders (push notifications)
If you ask a show page to remind you when a show starts, your browser gives us a push subscription address and keys, and we keep them with the show you picked, your time zone and the hour you chose. Turn reminders off in the page or in your browser's settings and we delete the subscription.
Search
Words you type into our episode search are sent to our server to find matching episodes. They appear in our server logs like any other request.
Settings kept on your device
Light or dark mode, text size, and game progress are saved in your own browser's storage. They are not sent to us.
TikTok
We use TikTok's official Content Posting API only to post our own gameplay videos to our own TikTok account, @stupidpotatostudios. When we connected that account, TikTok gave our server an access token and a refresh token. They are kept on our server, readable only by the service that posts our videos, and are never shared or published. From TikTok we receive only what posting needs: our own account's ID, display name and posting settings, and the status of each post. We do not use TikTok to sign in visitors to this site, and we do not collect any information about TikTok users or viewers through the API. Access can be withdrawn at any time in TikTok's settings (Security and permissions, then Apps), and we delete the tokens when we stop posting.
Services that help run the site
These companies process data for us only to provide their service: Contabo (our server, in Germany), Cloudflare (domain name service and the network that delivers our video files), Microsoft Azure (storage of our audio and video files), Google Fonts (the site's typefaces; your browser fetches them from Google), PostHog (analytics), Mailchimp (email), Stripe (payments) and, when we post our own videos, TikTok and YouTube. Pages that link to YouTube or other sites follow those sites' own policies once you leave ours.
How long we keep it
- Server logs: until they rotate out, normally a few weeks.
- Analytics: as long as PostHog keeps events for our project, in aggregate and without your name.
- Email addresses: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- Plus records: while you are a member, then as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- TikTok tokens: until we disconnect the account or TikTok expires them.
Your choices and rights
You can unsubscribe from any email, block or clear cookies, turn on "Do Not Track", turn off reminders, and cancel Plus at any time from the Plus page. You can also ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by writing to podcasts@stupidpotato.com. Depending on where you live (for example the European Union, the United Kingdom or California), you have those rights by law, and you may complain to your local data protection authority. We will answer within 30 days. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
Children
Our shows, cartoons, storybooks and games are for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the age set by local law). If you believe a child has given us an email address, write to podcasts@stupidpotato.com and we will delete it.
Security
Our server accepts administrative logins by key only, keeps its secrets out of public files, and serves every page over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care and keep as little as we can.
Changes
If we change what we collect, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
