What happens

Mr. X and his fiancée Nancy Bessington find Petko Todorovich dead at his New York apartment, shot through the heart beside his typewriter. A half-finished letter to a woman named Anna and a hidden roll of microfilm suggest a secret link to a Belgrade bank and the Reich's bank. The microfilm names Anton Goobec, director of the Belgrade bank, so X travels to Sofia, Bulgaria, to question him. Goobec proves to be a difficult, evasive man, and the investigation is complicated by a mix-up over who he really is and a second death.

New York City and Sofia, Bulgaria, during World War II, in 1944

Characters: Mr. X, Nancy Bessington, Petko Todorovich, Anna Todorovich, Anton Goobec, Zegon, Gancho

Listen for: Listen for the typed letter to Anna, the microfilm hidden in the bandage roll, and the clue that the typed letter was finished by someone other than Petko.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
