What happens

Ken Thurston is woken at one in the morning by his friend Pagan Zelschmitt, who insists he saw the ghost of Jose Martinez, a seaman supposedly drowned months earlier when the freighter Papago sank. Ken looks into the Jordan Transportation Company, whose ship the Papago was. He travels to San Pedro, joins the crew of the Pima as a deckhand, and begins to suspect the sinking was staged. Herbert Marshall plays Ken Thurston in this episode of The Man Called X, which aired on March 21, 1948.

New York City and San Pedro, California, with a side trip to Santa Barbara; a freighter and the Casa de Seville restaurant.

Characters: Ken Thurston, Pagan Zelschmitt, Jose Martinez, Chief, Dave, Mr. Sharp, Mother Jordan, Captain Blake

Listen for: Pagan's startled report of seeing a dead man alive, and the moment Ken questions the Jordan Company's records and its crew.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
