What happens
Lieutenant Ben Guthrie and Sergeant Matt Grebb investigate the shooting of Johnny Toronto, a powerful gangster, in his office. The police arrest Eddie Gaynor, a young hoodlum whose gun is found at the scene, and he insists he has been framed. As the detectives question witnesses and suspects, including the lawyer Tobin and the used car dealer's acquaintances, the case grows tangled with a second murder. This episode of The Line Up, first broadcast on July 20, 1950 on CBS, stars William Johnstone and Wally Maher as the two detectives.
A large American city, including a police headquarters lineup room, Johnny Toronto's office, a bar, a used car lot, and a Ferris wheel at a bayside park.
Characters: Lieutenant Ben Guthrie, Sergeant Matt Grebb, Eddie Gaynor, Johnny Toronto, Tobin, Ruby Lloyd, Ginny Breen, Aaron Kojaren
Listen for: Eddie Gaynor's claim that he was framed, and the detectives' questioning of the suspects in the lineup and afterward.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
