What happens
George Valentine receives a desperate call from a man named Abner, who is locked in the sheriff's office in the small town of Melody after a jail fire. Abner claims a prisoner died before the fire started, not in it, and hints that the local police chief is involved in covering up the death. George and his secretary Brooksy drive to investigate the mysterious death of an unknown man.
Melody, a small town in the valley with a jail that recently burned down; the Sheriff's office.
Characters: George Valentine, Brooksy, Abner, Hank, Chief McNabb, Sergeant
Listen for: A man's cryptic phone call reporting a prisoner's death before a jail fire; accusations of police corruption; George's investigation into whether the death was murder covered up by arson.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
