What happens
George Valentine is hired by Mrs. James to investigate the murder of her sister Ruth Jennings, who was killed in her bed sometime around midnight. Ruth's ex-husband Lou Jennings had threatened to kill her over custody of their baby, making him the prime suspect, but Lou claims he was working at Nick's all-night cafe and has an alibi.
A poor neighborhood on the wrong side of town; Ruth Jennings' home; Nick's all-night cafe on Barton Avenue; Lou Jennings' rooming house on Elizabeth Street
Characters: George Valentine, Miss Brooks, Lieutenant Johnson, Mrs. James, Ruth Jennings (deceased), Lou Jennings, Nick (cafe owner)
Listen for: George investigating his dead client's murder despite the police telling him to stay out of it; Lou Jennings' suspicious demeanor and claims of an alibi; the shotgun found at the foot of Ruth's bed with no fingerprints.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
