What happens

George Valentine is called in by Lieutenant Dancing to investigate the murder of Jerry Mace, a private investigator who worked for an independent insurance company. The case connects to a serial criminal known as the Prairie Dog, responsible for multiple robberies and murders across the city. George's investigation leads him to a pawn shop in the seediest part of town, where suspicious activity and a peculiar black safety match suggest a connection to his quarry.

A city with a rough industrial district known as the Prairie, including police headquarters, the streets, and a pawn shop in the seedier section of town.

Characters: George Valentine, Lieutenant Dancing, Jerry Mace, Felix, Angel

Listen for: References to the Prairie Dog criminal, clues involving black safety matches and greasy gloves, and the connection between Jerry Mace's insurance investigation and the pawn shop.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
