George Valentine is hired by Peta Van Russell, a research chemist from Burma, to locate a man named Terrence Hollowell who has recently arrived in the city. Hollowell sent Van Russell a cryptic cable mentioning a valuable pearl necklace, but when Van Russell tries to reach him, Hollowell's household claims he is not at home despite evidence he is in town. George begins investigating, discovering that Hollowell has a young wife and a business partner, and uncovering a mysterious employment agency connection that may be key to finding the elusive traveler.

A city, primarily at Hollowell's residence and its surroundings; the story involves characters recently arrived from Burma and Rangoon.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
