What happens

Private detective George Valentine receives a mysterious note from client Joe Logan warning that if he turns up dead, Valentine should cry murder—because Logan suspects foul play. When Logan is killed in what police call a hit-and-run accident near the Half Moon Motel, Valentine begins investigating and discovers that Logan was supposed to meet banker Frank Potter at the motel the same night. Potter is also found murdered, and Valentine must uncover the real killer before the police pin both deaths on his dead client.

A city with the Half Moon Motel on Whitman Highway, various bars including Mort's Patek Bar, a detective agency, and police headquarters.

Characters: George Valentine, Miss Brooks, Joe Logan, Lieutenant Riley, Frank Potter, Maggie, Mrs. Cronin, Sheila Cronin

Listen for: The clever deduction about Joe Logan's fatal walk down the highway, the revelation of Mrs. Cronin's true reasons for being at the motel, and the growing evidence that someone else killed both men.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
