George Valentine receives a letter from Joyce Dunning, who is in love with her best friend's husband, Lawrence Putnam. To convince Lawrence to stay faithful to his wife Bernice, whose weak heart cannot withstand shock or stress, Joyce asks George to pose as her romantic interest. When Lawrence spots them together at a restaurant, he becomes suspicious and invites George, Joyce, and George's secretary Miss Brooks to a weekend at his Mount Webster estate, determined to uncover the truth.

A city restaurant called the Croydon, George Valentine's office, and Lawrence Putnam's Mount Webster estate.

Characters: George Valentine, Joyce Dunning, Lawrence Putnam, Bernice Putnam, Miss Brooks, Dr. Llewellyn, Mr. Folsom

Listen for: The clever plan to protect Bernice's fragile heart, Lawrence's growing suspicion about the staged romance, and the dangerous weekend ahead at the Putnam estate.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
