What happens

Johnny Dollar, an insurance investigator, meets Dan Valentine, a former gangster just released from prison after serving time for Prohibition-era crimes. The next morning, before leaving New Orleans, Johnny is called to meet with Inspector Debaka of the police force, who questions whether Johnny has any business dealings with Valentine. Moments later, Valentine is shot and rushed to the hospital.
