What happens
Johnny Dollar, a freelance insurance investigator, looks into the disappearance of Tom Chase, a former junior partner in a New York investment firm who embezzled $120,000 and jumped bail. Tracking a lead to New Orleans after the murder of Freddy Quintana, Dollar speaks with Detective Lieutenant LaFevre and questions Chase's wife, Lola, who is shaken by the news. Burned scraps of paper and a rental agent's record point toward a rooming house where Chase had been staying under the name Tom James. The episode is part of the Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar series, first broadcast on CBS Radio on October 18, 1956, with Bob Bailey in the lead role.

Listen for: The burned paper fragments with the numbers twelve and twenty-three, and Dollar's hunch about what they might mean.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
