What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Greensport, Missouri to investigate the shooting death of Police Chief Ed Blake in his own home. With Blake's young widow Marty and city attorney Dave Sherman both present at the scene, suspicion falls on ex-convict Shorty Wells, who had threatened Blake before his imprisonment. But when someone fires five shots at Dollar himself near City Hall, the case becomes more complicated, and Dollar begins to wonder if the real target was someone else entirely.

Greensport, Missouri

Characters: Johnny Dollar, Joe Crilly, Mayor Will Lands, Marty Blake, Dave Sherman, Police Chief Ed Blake, Shorty Wells, Officer O'Rourke

Listen for: Dollar's skepticism about the too-convenient frame of ex-convict Shorty Wells and his growing suspicion that the shooting at City Hall may have been aimed at Marty Blake rather than himself, suggesting a darker connection between the widow and the city attorney.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
