What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Greensport, Missouri to investigate the death of Ed Blake, who carried a $50,000 policy. Blake's young widow Marty filed her claim within 24 hours, making her the prime suspect. However, City Attorney Dave Sherman provides her with a seemingly airtight alibi, claiming he witnessed her standing in the hall at the moment of the shooting. As Johnny digs deeper, he learns that Blake was involved in local rackets and that a dangerous criminal named Shorty Wells had threatened him.
