What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar follows up on a tip about a $100,000 jewelry theft from Julian McCormick's home five years earlier. A dying convict named Mike Karen mentioned that ex-con Joe Penny may have been involved in the heist. Dollar visits McCormick's mansion on Long Island, reviews the case details with Allied Casualty's Frank Porter, and begins tracking down Penny, who has recently disappeared from his hotel.

Characters: Johnny Dollar, Frank Porter, Julian McCormick, Mrs. McCormick, Mike Karen, Joe Penny, Doodles Martin

Listen for: Dollar's suspicion that McCormick seems frightened by the investigation; the revelation that no trace of the stolen jewelry has ever surfaced despite five years passing; a mysterious phone call claiming to be from Johnny Dollar that may not be who it seems.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
