What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar receives an urgent call from a prison chaplain: dying inmate Michael Cairn wants to see him. When Dollar visits Sing Sing, the dying con man reveals he suspects fellow inmate Joe Penny knows the location of $100,000 in jewels stolen from a rich man named McCormick years ago. Before dying, Cairn urges Dollar to investigate and split any reward with Cairn's widow. Dollar travels to New York to look into the old case and track down Penny.
