What happens

Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar arrives in Los Angeles to investigate the death of Eddie Kalen, a small-time gambler and promoter who died in a car fire in a ravine. A ten-thousand-dollar life insurance policy was recently issued on Kalen at his wife's urging, despite his dismissive attitude toward it. Detective Sergeant Reynosa suspects foul play rather than accident, pointing to suspicious circumstances including signs of struggle in the Kalens' apartment, possible arson, and a large poker loss Kalen may have suffered before his death.

Los Angeles, including an airport, a Beverly Wilshire Hotel, a police station, and the Kalen apartment in the hills above the harbor.

Characters: Johnny Dollar, Presley Welch, Detective Sergeant Jose Reynosa, Eddie Kalen, Mrs. Kalen, Topo Lienley

Listen for: The whimsical banter between Johnny Dollar and the nervous insurance salesman Presley Welch sets the tone, while Detective Reynosa's growing suspicion that something is deeply wrong with the official story drives the investigation forward.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
