What happens
Paladin receives a telegram from Lola Blackwood, a former actress he knew in San Francisco, asking him to come at once. He travels to her ranch in Grass Valley and discovers she is now engaged to a man named Boon Caldwell, who makes it clear that Paladin is no longer welcome. When Paladin investigates the telegram at the local telegraph office, he learns that it was actually sent by Laurie, the young girl living with Lola, not by Lola herself.
San Francisco and the town of Grass Valley in California, 1959
Characters: Paladin, Lola Blackwood, Laurie Gallagher, Boon Caldwell, Hey Boy, telegram clerk
Listen for: Paladin's investigation into why he was summoned to Grass Valley and what Laurie's true motives might be for sending the telegram
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
