What happens

Paladin arrives at the Lucky Penny mine to investigate a gold shipment robbery that has been blamed on Charlie Hodges, the former superintendent. Charlie insists he's innocent and suspects the mine itself may be a fraud, questioning whether a rich vein was ever truly discovered by the newcomer Joe Penny.

San Francisco area, 1875. The Lucky Penny goldmine and a small hotel in the nearby town.
