What happens

Ted Jobe returns to Dodge City after four years away to find his father Joe in declining health and spirits. The old rancher had nearly given up hope, but now clings to the possibility that his son's homecoming might restore meaning to his life. When Marshal Dillon learns that the young man is spending his time drinking and causing trouble at the saloon rather than helping his father, he decides to investigate the situation himself.

Dodge City and surrounding territory in the American West, including Joe Jobe's ranch and a local saloon

Characters: Matt Dillon, Doc Adams, Joe Jobe, Ted Jobe, Chester, Daphne Forsyth

Listen for: The complicated reunion between father and son, and how Marshal Dillon handles a young man whose return home brings conflict rather than comfort.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
