What happens

A young man named Raffy, a war veteran who wears a drum given to him by a captain at Antietam, finds himself mistreated by the townspeople of Dodge City. Marshal Dillon and Miss Kitty show him kindness, but tensions escalate when some rowdy men corner him at the saloon and demand he perform humiliating acts to retrieve his cherished drum. The marshal must intervene before the situation turns tragic.

Characters: Matt Dillon, Miss Kitty, Raffy, Chester, Doc, Toby, Sam

Listen for: A poignant examination of how war trauma and social cruelty can drive a vulnerable person to breaking point; the tension between a marshal's compassion and townspeople's intolerance.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
