What happens

J.B. Kendall, an English writer for the London Times, arrives in the Montana town of South Sunday hoping to collect a remittance from England and observe frontier life. He finds the town governed by an unusual law: no one except the sheriff can carry guns. Kendall registers with Sheriff Clanton and settles into the Empire Hotel, where he meets Lila, a widow working at the saloon, who warns him about the tensions between the sheriff's authority and men like Deputy Farley who resent his control.

South Sunday, Montana Territory, a frontier town with a strict no-guns law enforced by the sheriff.

Characters: J.B. Kendall, Sheriff Frank Clanton, Deputy Jake Farley, Lila, the express office clerk

Listen for: The growing conflict between Sheriff Clanton's gun prohibition and the men of the town who chafe under his strict authority, and Kendall's complicated background that prevents him from returning to England.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
