What happens
In drought-stricken Kansas, a traveling rainmaker named Darby Bowman arrives in town with a bold guarantee: he'll bring rain for $1,000. He hires a visiting journalist named Kendall as his assistant and puts up a sign advertising his services. When Bowman takes to the streets making his pitch, he faces skepticism from both the locals and the sheriff, but he offers a challenge—give him 24 hours or the town pays nothing.
The town of Ossivatme in Eastern Kansas during a severe three-month drought.
Characters: Slim Kendall (the journalist narrator), Darby Bowman (the rainmaker), Sheriff Finnick, Stanja (a local farmer)
Listen for: Darby Bowman's confident sales pitch and the tension between his outrageous claims and the town's desperation for rain. The clash with Sheriff Finnick sets up the central conflict of whether Bowman will be run out of town or prove his abilities.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
