What happens
At Fort Laramie, the funeral service concludes for Thad Hale, a cavalry officer who has served through numerous battles only to die in an accident when lumber piling falls on him off duty. Captain Lee Quince consoles Thad's widow, Jesse, as she prepares to leave the fort and return to her sister's home in Camden to begin a new life away from the army.
Fort Laramie, at the grave of cavalry officer Thad Hale and later on the porch of the fort
Characters: Captain Lee Quince, Jesse Hale, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major, Chaplain
Listen for: Jesse's memories of her thirty years of marriage to Thad, her acceptance of his sudden death, and her decision to leave the frontier for a quieter life back east
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
