What happens
Dan Holiday investigates a scheme defrauding betting agents across the state. A mysterious group of twenty consistent winners, who never visit the racetrack, manage to place bets on long shots just before races begin and never lose. Holiday's investigation leads him to interview Terry Vaughn, a nightclub singer who has won substantial sums with improbable accuracy.
A state where betting is legal; a betting establishment with a wire room receiving live racetrack broadcasts; a nightclub
Characters: Dan Holiday, Bert Hendrix, Susie, Billy, Terry Vaughn
Listen for: The mystery of how a ring of twenty bettors consistently predict race winners without ever visiting the track, and what connection Terry Vaughn has to the scheme.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
