Hello BBC, this is Chancellor Wilmer, broadcasting from the streets on the outskirts of Brussels. A street finder just going on as they're coming into the outskirts of the city and the tanks of our two yards away from their streets and their turrets round to fire out over the open fields towards the wood where we believe there are some Germans because from that wood has been coming from fire.

About 10 yards in front of me, there is a alarm at car which has just been firing into the wood. That was the machine gun fire which you heard at the opening of this broadcast.

Right along the column, the road is absolutely jam-packed with tanks, ambulances, jeeps, trucks, armoured cars and every kind of vehicle, as this column streams into Brussels. And for the moment it is halted by this fire on the left, down in the field, civilian defects themselves down in the corn, and they're getting back behind the cover of the trays and the tanks.

And now from the tent columns, men are going out with ding-duns into the woods, hunting for the buck.
