The Whirlaround Murder Case

I'm going to kill him and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Betty, please.

There isn't much you and I can do in this world, Lettie, for obvious reasons. Well, but one thing I know I can do and that's kill Whitey Rand. He's no good. He's hurting the sweetest girl in this carnival.

I'm not going to let him get away with her. Don't talk about killing like Rand. Why not? What am I supposed to do? Let Sally be hurt? Oh no. She's old enough to know what she's doing.

No girl is old enough to know what she's doing when a man like Whitey Rand is around. You've seen him operate. You've seen him swindle the suckers in that penny-pitching concession he has. Did you ever see anything so smooth?

It still has no reason for you to get into a murder, Miss Betty. No. What could happen to me if I killed him? Well, I don't know. Of course you don't know. Don't you realize I'm one of the only persons in the world who can commit murder and not be punished?

That's no reason for you. No reason. It's all the more reason. I can kill Whitey Rand. I can be caught killing him. I can confess that I killed him. You can tell the police that I planned the crime in advance.

Still they can do nothing to me. Because of me, that's right. Because of you. You would be innocent. Yes. And they can't very well do anything to me without affecting you. That's right. Sister dear, I think this is the first time that being Siamese twins, having been born and joined together, is going to do either of us any good.
