Great scenes from great play. Tonight, Madeline Carroll in Lady with a Life. Now here's your host, the distinguished actor-manager, Mr. Walter Hampton. Good evening ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to another transcribed half hour on, a great stars and great plays, presented on behalf of the Protestant Episcopal Church in your own community, and the Episcopal Actors' Guild.
Tonight you are to hear Fylo Higgley's adaptation of Reginald's Barplay Summer, the Lady with a Land, starring Miss Madeline Carroll as Foreign Nightingale. We dedicate our story tonight to the American Red Cross. In order to achieve her dream to found the great position of modern nursing, Clarence Nuytendale had to oppose the world she lived in.
The sombre standards of her day were to rob this woman from her achievement, but she found a way in spite of them to awaken a far-reaching spirit of compassion for human suffering and to give it practical embodiment.
It's a summer day in the England of 1842, a splendid carriage nears the gates of a great country of state and in it to go. That's nothing for us. Something's wrong up there in the field.
So what's the matter? It's Willie Reed, Miss Lawrence. He's suddenly far shared his cup of something terrible. We look out with the spring, the water from the brook. There's a lot of his children, right, open.
There's a lot of blood. I'm going out there all the same. You may have had an artery. Give me your hands on it. There's no, no, things right here. There. Well, Willie, it looks as if you reversed the proverb, and made your proud share of thought.
Let me look at you. It's not the badness, Lawrence. Only I feel clear. We're banded with it. I've lots of extra ruffles on my petticoaf. Oh, Miss No. What would your father say? I'm sure he'd call me very selfish, Willie, if I didn't help you.
