Young Dr. Malone, presented by the makers of post-brand flakes, will not be heard today. Now here's a roundup of the latest invasion news. Allied invasion forces on the Shereborg Peninsula have cleared all enemy troops from their beachheads, and in some cases these beachheads have been linked together.

British paratroop forces have taken bridges north of Khan, which lies nine miles inland, and have beaten off a German tank counter-attack. This is the first engagement of any size reported since the invasion began. It took place last evening and is assumed to have been a fight for a railway which runs through Cannes and links with Sherberg 65 miles away.

Allied ground troops have been reinforced by men and supplies dropped from fleets of transport planes, but the Germans are also rushing up reinforcements and enemy resistance is stiffening. The weather also has been unfavorable. As a result, Allied operations have been slowed down somewhat, and headquarters said reports coming in from the front this morning were disappointing. However, by midday, reports showed

that our position was improving. The Germans say Allied artillery has already gone into action from the beachheads. The Germans are jittery about possible new Allied landings. This morning, they said Allied troops had tried to land on the Particle area of the French coast. Now they say we have landed an airborne division on the western coast of the Normandy

Peninsula. That's across the peninsula from our present beachheads, and if the reported landing has been made, it may mean that the Allies are aiming to cut off the finger of land jutting into the channel. However, there has been no allied confirmation of such a landing.
