The Sleepwalker

This is the ABC through 3-0 Melbourne. Well, Emma, I was dreaming, walking my sleep.

Richard. A horrible dream. Close your mother's door. We don't want a weaker. Thank heavens you woke me. I heard someone moving. I thought your mother might be ill. It was a horrible dream. Horrible. Go back to bed.

Yes, tell him. Of course. Richard! What is it? In your hand. The BBC presents A Case for Dr. Morel, another adventure by Ernest Duttony. When Cecil Parker is the famous Dr. Morel, and she lassims his secretary Miss Frale, the sleepwalker.

That'd be at this time of night. One good way to find out Miss Frale would be to answer it. Oh, hello? This is Dr. Morel's heart. Hello? Hello? Who is it? Well, there's no one there.

One there. In that case, hang up and we'll proceed with my work. Oh, I do wish people wouldn't do that. It makes me feel quite creepy. Probably a burglar casing the joint. Doing what, Doctor?

Surely you've heard that underworld expression before. The burglar telephones the house he's selected to discover if it's unoccupied or not. Quite the usual procedure. Sure, no, Burghia would dream of robbing you. They know you too well.

I'm not quite sure whether to feel flattered or not. Well, you know what I mean. I believe you're only trying to scare me. If I may continue with my dictating. Yes, Dr. Maril. Where were we?

I was propounding that every criminal is actuated by a compulsive urge to encompass his own doom. In each human being, the seeds of death are implanted from the moment of death. And in order to destroy himself, the evil doer deliberately seeks to draw attention to his crime.
