What happens

Wild Bill Hickok and his deputy Jingles investigate a mountain lion that has been killing calves on Dad Winters' ranch. Winters fears he cannot keep up his mortgage payments, and the two lawmen begin to suspect that someone is deliberately helping the cougar's raids. Their night search in the arroyo brings them under unseen gunfire and tracks that suggest a rider was present. The story is part of the Wild Bill Hickok radio series, first aired on October 13, 1954, with Guy Madison as Wild Bill and Andy Divine as Jingles.

The old American West, at Dad Winters' ranch, the arroyo and hills nearby, and Slade Andrews' neighboring ranch.

Characters: Wild Bill Hickok, Jingles, Dad Winters, Jimmy, Slade Andrews, Jake McClay

Listen for: The gunshots in the dark arroyo and the tracks of a horse beside the cougar's prints, which suggest that someone is riding with the animal.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
