What happens

Wild Bill Hickok and his sidekick Jingles ride through a rainy night and take shelter in a wayside railroad depot at Boulder Pass, where a stranger has been shot dead. Bill identifies the victim as Jim Travis, a range detective for the Cattlemen's Association, and wires for help. Suspicious of a telegraph message that seems to come from Alder Creek without the usual operator's touch, Bill and Jingles set out to check on Baldy Jamison, the regular operator there. Guy Madison plays Wild Bill and Andy Devine plays Jingles in this Wild Bill Hickok adventure from 1951.

The American West: a rainy night at a wayside railroad depot in Boulder Pass, then the nearby telegraph station at Alder Creek.

Listen for: The telegraph operator's 'fist', the distinctive sending style that reveals the message did not come from Baldy Jamison.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
