What happens
Vic Gook, the mother of the Gook household, has been absorbed in cutting out a dress pattern for Miss Donahue and has not started dinner. Her husband Russell and son Bob are left to fend for themselves at noon. The pantry offers only a can of Portuguese lima bean soup, a can of sardines and some milk, and the can opener proves difficult to use. Vic is caught on the telephone with her friend Ruthie while the men argue over the lunch options. The episode is part of the Vic and Sade series, aired in 1944, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson as the leads.
The small house halfway up the next block, in the kitchen and dining room, around noon on a hot summer day.
Characters: Vic Gook, Russell Gook, Bob Gook, Sade, Ruthie, Miss Donahue
Listen for: Vic's telephone call with Ruthie and the dispute over the Portuguese lima bean soup.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
