What happens

Vic and Rush Gook are dismayed when Sadie tells them that Miss Harris has offered them her large backyard garden plot for the summer. Vic is indignant that he is expected to dig and spade the ground, while Rush is more concerned with his own plans for the summer. Sadie tries to convince the men that growing their own vegetables will be enjoyable. The family argues over whether the garden is a fair exchange for the tools and the shared crops they must give Miss Harris in return. The Vic and Sade series aired on NBC, CBS and Mutual, and this episode was first broadcast on January 12, 1940, starring Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson.

Characters: Vic Gook, Sade Gook, Rush Gook, Miss Harris

Listen for: Sadie's repeated remark about being knocked over with a feather, and the family's back-and-forth over whether Miss Harris's offer is generous or a white elephant.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
