What happens
Uncle Fletcher announces to Sade that he is leaving his lodgings, though the reason and his plans keep shifting as he talks. Sade is alarmed at the idea of him moving to a noisy hotel near the railroad yards, and he insists he will take a room at the Butler House Hotel instead while his friend Hank Gutstop is on vacation. He is to look after Hank's canary, fish and cat and keep the place dusted. Sade is skeptical that he will go through with it, and the uncertainty over his move runs through the conversation. The scene is a short morning exchange in Sade's kitchen, with Fletcher also offering news of a romance between Miss Keller and a gentleman in North Dakota.
The small house halfway up the block, where Sade is dusting the living room and talking with the telephone and then with Uncle Fletcher in the morning.
Characters: Sade, Uncle Fletcher
Listen for: Uncle Fletcher's changing account of where he is moving and why, and Sade's reactions to each version.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
