What happens

Sade Gookall receives a package of Christmas cards sent cash on delivery, and she paid for them without knowing what was inside. Her niece Rush sees her with the unwanted cards on the porch swing and learns the package came from Carberry, Illinois. Sade insists she will not buy Christmas cards in summer, even as relatives and neighbors keep pestering her. She sorts through the cards, reading verses aloud and trying to decide which ones she could ever send to anyone. Vic and Sade is the series, and the original air date is August 6, 1942; Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson are the lead actors.

The small house on the next block, late afternoon in summer, the front porch and swing.

Characters: Sade, Rush, Vic, Mother

Listen for: Sade's reaction to the cash-on-delivery package and her reading of the card verses.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
