What happens

Vic and Sade sit on their front porch with their son Rush, discussing a situation they must cope with. Vic has been carving a gross of gavels, 144 small wooden hammers, as a Christmas present for Sade, a gift Ruthie finds wasteful and cluttering. Sade's husband Fred has undertaken the project proudly, and the family plans to steer him away from it before their card guests arrive for a game of 500 the next evening. Rush, who has strong opinions on the spelling of the word, keeps interrupting the discussion.

The small house halfway up the next block, on its front porch in the early evening.

Characters: Vic, Sade, Rush, Ruthie, Fred

Listen for: The family's debate over the word 'gavel' and their plan to talk Fred out of carving 144 of them.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
