What happens

Vic Gook lies stretched out on the davenport in the small house, slowly reading a letter from his sister-in-law Beth while his wife Sade watches from the easy chair, growing impatient. Sade has been waiting for him to read the letter for twenty minutes and he has only reached the second sentence. Vic and Sade is a radio comedy series, and this episode was first broadcast on June 8, 1942, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the lead roles. Sade reads parts of the letter aloud, which mentions Walter's kneecap, Junior's piano practice and the neighbors, and the letter's dull, rambling wording becomes the source of the humor.

Listen for: Vic's slow, drawn-out reading of Beth's letter and Sade's growing exasperation

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
