What happens

Vic and Sade is a daytime radio serial, and this episode, from June 22, 1944, follows the Gook family through a summer afternoon. Young Russell is at home studying while Vic sits in the living room, and Sade tells of the Christmas card salesmen who have been pestering her all day, including Miss Freeley, Mr. Erickson, Hank Gutstop, Miss Elders and Miss Harris. Each visitor makes Sade more harried, and Vic and Russell swap stories about the day. Late in the episode, the household weighs how to head off the parade of salesmen before Sade gets sick from the strain.

The small house halfway up in the next block, a summer afternoon in the late 1940s radio world, with the living room and the telephone at the center of the action.

Characters: Vic, Sade, Russell, Miss Freeley, Mr. Erickson, Hank Gutstop, Miss Elders, Miss Harris

Listen for: Sade's ever-escalating account of the Christmas card salesmen, and Russell's deadpan tally of the day's visitors.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
