What happens

Mr. Z, a neatly dressed stranger with a small suitcase, rents Mrs. Kessler's basement in the neighborhood and begins chatting with the Gook and Victor families. Sade and Mrs. Gook wonder about his odd remarks, his partly finished yard work and his card tricks. Mrs. Kessler's telephone is tested, and the neighbors debate whether he can be trusted. This is an episode of the long-running Vic and Sade radio serial, first broadcast on October 10, 1946, starring Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson.

A residential neighborhood, mainly the Gook and Kessler houses and the Victor home

Characters: Mr. Z, Mrs. Kessler, Mrs. Gook, Rush Cook, Orville, Sade, Vic

Listen for: Mr. Z's card-guessing tricks and his Persian quotations, and the neighbors' growing suspicion about who he is

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
