What happens
Vic and Sade is a daily family serial about the household of Vic and Sade Gook in a small house halfway up the next block. Vic has been invited by a railroad man, Mr. Donahue, to ride in a locomotive cab on a trip to Chicago, where he has business meetings with a kitchenware executive. Sade and their son Rush weigh the appeal of the free ride against the hardships of standing for 140 miles and arriving grimy at the Chicago station. Vic is nervous about the trip and about how he will look when he meets his contacts. The family argues over whether he should go and how he would get aboard the engine. The episode is part of the series' 1940 run, first broadcast on May 3, 1940, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the leading roles.
The living room of the Gook family's small house in a quiet neighborhood, late afternoon, with a railroad trip to Chicago under discussion.
Characters: Vic Gook, Sade Gook, Rush Gook, Mr. Donahue
Listen for: Vic's growing alarm at the prospect of riding in the locomotive, and the family's back-and-forth over whether the trip is worth it.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
