What happens
Vic Cook sits alone on the front porch when his friend Tom White arrives, and the two talk about the afternoon. Uncle Fletcher, a lodge member, joins them and recalls a boastful tale of a human pyramid at a county fair. Vic has received a letter from lodge headquarters in Chicago announcing style changes to the official regalia, and he wants to know whether a seamstress, Miss Kelly, can make the alterations. Much of the talk drifts into rambling digressions about old acquaintances, cars and a dentist. The letter is read aloud, listing its numbered changes to robes, sleeves, shoulders and costs. Uncle Fletcher eventually leaves for home.
A small house in the late afternoon, on the front porch and in the yard, with a neighbouring house nearby.
Characters: Vic Cook, Tom White, Uncle Fletcher, Russell, Sadie, Miss Kelly
Listen for: Vic reading the lodge letter aloud, listing the numbered regalia alterations for 1944.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
