What happens
Sade Gook discovers a package from her nephew Robert and his wife Laura containing a pair of easy slippers marked not to be opened until Christmas, and she opens it anyway. Finding the slippers too large and the steel chain too short, she is determined to have them sent back, while her husband Vic and son Rush are drawn into the affair. Sade insists she is not involved in any lady stuff, and the household's wrangling over how to write the letter to Laura fills the afternoon. The series is Vic and Sade, and this episode aired on November 4, 1941, with Bernardine Flynn and Bill Idelson in the leading roles.
The living room and kitchen of the Gook family's small house, halfway up the next block, late one afternoon.
Characters: Sade Gook, Vic Gook, Rush Gook, Robert Larson, Laura Steed, Ruthie
Listen for: Sade's protests about the slippers and her insistence that she is not involved in any lady stuff, and the men's efforts to draft the letter to Laura.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
