What happens
Sheriff Morton and Texas Ranger Jace Pearson investigate the murder of Mike Redford when an elderly farmhand named Lucifer confesses to shooting his boss. However, inconsistencies in Lucifer's statement and suspicious injuries on Lucifer's grandson Chad suggest the confession may not be what it appears to be.
Lingua, Texas in January 1933, including the Negro Quarter across the railroad tracks, a jail, and Redford's farm in the hills.
Characters: Sheriff Ross Morton, Texas Ranger Jace Pearson, Lucifer, Chad, Mike Redford, Pedro, Sam Bill
Listen for: The sheriff and ranger compare Lucifer's confession with earlier events showing Redford treated Lucifer fairly, and Ranger Pearson notices suspicious scratch marks and bruises on Chad's face and wrists.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
